Case Study
Prominent Pistachio Plant Eliminates the Need For Repetitive Sorting of Refuse Bin
The Challenge
The plant faced the issue of accurately determining foreign material (FM) count in a bin. They had been relying on empirical test methods requiring a dedicated person across shifts to manually inspect the reject bin. This method requires repeated processing of each bin and when the reject bin reached < 20 FMs they were confident that the accept bin was < 10 FMs. Multiple runs through the sorter resulted in reduced throughput and corresponding reductions in revenue.
The Solution
Borde Inspection Solution was implemented on the 'accept' side of the plant's color sorting machine and was installed in-line with their existing equipment in less than a day. The system provided the capability to inspect 100% of pistachios, eliminating the need for repeated runs through the sorter. The customer requested integration of the Borde data with their 3rd party database, and was implemented to replace manual data entry.
The Benefits
- Increased throughput
- Increased revenue
- Enhanced product quality and consistency
- 24/7 access to data and immediate notification
